Italy, a country renowned for its rich tapestry of art, culture, and history, is a destination that captivates the hearts of travellers from around the globe. From historic streets of Rome to the waters of the Amalfi Coast, Italy offers a unique blend of experiences that reflect its diverse heritage. This lovely country promises an unforgettable journey.

Out of all of the places I have been to, Italy is certainly Top 3.

Rome

Our Airbnb was a two minute walk to The Trevi Fountains, one of the most famous fountains in the world, located in the heart of Rome, Italy. It is known for its stunning architecture and intricate sculptures. It was constructed on the site of an ancient Roman aqueduct, which supplied water to the city since 19 BC. The design incorporates various mythological figures, symbolizing abundance and the bounty of water.

One of the most famous traditions associated with the Trevi Fountain is the coin toss. Visitors throw a coin over their left shoulder into the fountain, which is said to ensure a return to Rome. It is estimated that around €3,000 are thrown into the fountain each day, which is collected and donated to charity.

We woke up around 5am for photos at the Trevi Fountain. Tranquility filled the air in these early waking hours, with only a few other small groups present. What was once a bustling crowd during the day became a place of peace. The magnificent waters were gently lit up, illuminating the atmosphere.

We frequently dined by the Colosseum, another famous historical landmark in Rome and a remarkable piece of engineering. Construction began in AD 70-72 under Emperor Vespasian and was completed in AD 80 under his successor, Titus. It was used for gladiatorial contests, public spectacles, and various events, accommodating tens of thousands of spectators.

Dining near the Colosseum offers a unique experience, allowing us to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere while surrounded by the rich history of this ancient landmark. In the evenings, the structure emits a beautiful glow, perfectly matching the sunsets. I loved seeing people embrace this figure, enjoying their nights in this beautiful city. There was something special in the overall atmosphere

Italy is extremely hot in the summer months, so make sure to stay hydrated and use meals and gelato breaks as opportunities to cool down. I personally loved the heat, but it can get intense when being in the sun for too long.

The Spanish Steps & Shopping Experience

The Spanish Steps, or "Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti," is a monumental stairway of 135 steps located in Rome, Italy. It is situated in the Piazza di Spagna and connects the Piazza di Spagna with the Trinità dei Monti church at the top. The steps were designed in the 18th century and serve as a popular gathering place for both locals and tourists. The top of the steps offers stunning views of the city, making it a popular spot for photographs.

At the base of the steps lies one of Rome's premier shopping districts, offering a luxurious shopping experience that attracts fashion enthusiasts from around the world. The area is home to numerous luxury brands such as Gucci, Prada, and Valentino, providing an exclusive shopping experience.

Visitors can enjoy a coffee or pastry at elegant cafés while soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of the piazza. In addition to luxury brands, there are also artisan shops selling unique, handcrafted items that reflect the rich Italian craftsmanship. The area often hosts fashion events and showcases, further enhancing its status as a luxury shopping destination.

The combination of the historic Spanish Steps and the luxury shopping experience at its base makes this area a must-visit for anyone exploring Rome.

Art Museum: Galleria Colonna

The Galleria Colonna is a luxuriously stunning art museum located in the heart of Rome, renowned for its impressive collection of art and its historical significance. It is housed within the Palazzo Colonna, one of the largest private palaces in the city, which has been in the Colonna family for centuries.

Art: The gallery features a remarkable collection of paintings, sculptures, and frescoes from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Notable artists represented include Caravaggio, Guercino, and Raphael.

Architectural Beauty: The palace itself is a masterpiece of architecture, with grand halls, opulent rooms, gorgeous gardens and beautifully decorated ceilings that enhance the overall experience of visiting the museum.

Historical Significance: The Galleria Colonna has been a centre of art and culture for centuries, reflecting the history of the Colonna family and their contributions to Rome's artistic heritage.

This place is extraordinary. As a life-long lover of art, I could spend an entire day here.

For around $30 in entry access fees, you gain inspiration that truly stays with you. Guided Tours are available for those who wish to gain deeper insights into the artworks and the history of the palace. The Galleria Colonna is a hidden gem that offers a unique glimpse into the artistic and cultural legacy of Rome, making it a must-visit for art enthusiasts and history lovers alike.

Sorrento & The Amalfi Coast

Sorrento is a town located in the Campania region of Italy, overlooking the Bay of Naples. Through a scenic boat ride, it served as a gateway to the stunning Amalfi Coast, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, charming villages, and rich cultural heritage.

One thing to note is that lemons are everywhere.

Sorrento is famous for its historic centre, beautiful churches, and vibrant piazzas. Key attractions include the Basilica di Sant'Antonino, the Sedile Dominova, and the Marina Grande. Sorrento is known for its delicious local cuisine, featuring fresh seafood, homemade pasta, and the famous limoncello liqueur made from the region's lemons. In addition to the cuisine, visitors can enjoy boat trips, hiking in the surrounding hills, and exploring the nearby islands of Capri and Ischia.

The Amalfi Coast is famous for its dramatic cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and colourful villages that cling to the mountainsides. The coast is rich in history and culture, with ancient churches, historic villas, and local artisan shops. After a delicious pizza lunch, our waiter kindly brought us small glasses of cooled lemon juice. I have genuinely never tasted something so refreshing. Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast offer a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and culinary delights, making them an attractive destination in Italy.
